I replaced the FR01. It's all working ok now.

Me too. I checked the board over with a magnifying glass but couldn't see any obvious shorts anywhere.

I left it on repeat play for 14 hours yesterday and no problem.

I guess we have to put it down to "just one of those things".

This happened to a Rotel RCD991 that I had once. The fusable resistor blew for no reason. Glad to see that the display is working again

I can confirm fusible resistors can just pop on powerup.
