Default TOSHIBA SD-3990 Mods

I am considering buying this DVD player as a first project mod. Do the older mods for the 3950 apply to this guy also?

why shouldn't they? 90% of the 3950 mods are power supply upgrades. That's a mod that improves just about any low-$ commercial player, especially those made for absolute rock-bottom pricing mass market sales.

You'll just have to improvise a little since not even two 3950s, built just a month apart, were the same player.

The unit sounds in its stock form already sounds better than even modded 3950 units due to an improved output section that removes the need for coupling capacitors. I've been told that schematics are available for this unit...Op-amp rolling should be the order of the day should someone be able to add a DIP socket to the surface mount traces.

P.S. All chips are cool to the touch and my unit seems realiable as it has finished its 3-week burn-in period and has taken the distinctive modded 3950 sound to the next level.

cheers,
