Default Can jitter cause hiss ?

Recently I was fooling around with my old(er) Sony discman (D-191) that I had purchased about 6-7 yrs ago. I pulled out the transport mechanism and applied some vibration damping material to whatever areas I possibly could, including the motors and the lens carraige. The one biggest difference I noticed after doing this mod was that before there used to be a very obvious background hiss while playing which is now as good as gone. The only thing that I can think of is that the vibration damping helped reduce jitter caused due to mechanical vibrations. But I have no way of verifying. Could this be possible ? Could jitter cause hiss ? If so then what is the technical explanation for this ?

It is more likely that a dirty or corroded electrical connection was cleaned up as a side effect of disconnecting and reconnecting it.

nope didnt remove any connectors, had enough room with the wires connected, once the transport was off its three rubber grommet feet.
