Default Kwak Clock without AD8561?

Hi guys,

I have a question regarding the Kwak Clock.

Can the Kwak clock work if I were to remove the AD8561 chip and wire the clock signal directly from the crystal?

Elso,

Have you tried your Kwak Clock without the AD8561 comparator?

Yes, it sounds better with comparator.
For the higher frequencies when oscillation is weaker you cannot do without comparator. Especially 33 and 45 MHz with special fundamental mode crystals

Hi.

Did you try other configurations eg buffer amp, 7404 etc.?
before settling on the comparator.

[As used in some other 'well-known' oscillators ]

I tried many, many other schemes including one 74HC04 and 74VHC04, balanced Colpits, Pierce, Butler oscillators and all kinds of regulators, all kinds of comparators, several FETs and bipolar transistors.
The CD-player expects a square wave BTW.
I did not post all results.
