Smile Low cost DVD/CD transport That gets the bits off.

Hi Im a diy guy that enjoys the hobbie . I want to know if theres a dvd/cd player transport that gets the information off the media better than others units.
I have been using a crystal cs-4328 evaluation board for years now and I always seem to come back to it. There have been other dacs that do things better. What i notice is my old philips CD920 sounds different from my philips dvd621.
CD920 sounds light lots a peices put back together and the dvd621 sounds more focused but has the grunge over female vocals. Does a switching PS in the DVD hurt things?
In ending I am open to thoughts to improve the sound . Is there any info on improving the crystal SC-4328 board. * Reduce Jitter *
I always tune into to guys as there is lots of good thoughts going on here.
Thanks Fred
