Default Vam 1205 CDM 12.5 Naim CD5

Hi, I'm looking for the above transport but to no avail. I managed to find 1202 & 1204. Is the 1204 is compatible with 1205? and if it yes, any mod to be done?

Between 1202 & 1205 which one is better?

There are a few VAM1205s available from a chap in Germany, they're quite good (will post contact details when I've found the url again)

The VAM 1205 is basically the VAM1204 (CDM12.4, same thing) but with a brushless disc motor. So - buy the 1204 and swap the laser block into your existing '1205. I've done this, and mate has duplicated the swap blind (by email) with 100% success.

Martin,

Thanks for your reply.

I'm using Naim CD5, shouldn't be a problem right?

No, it's the same '1205 just as used in the CD3.5 - on which we've successfully done the 12.4laser-into- VAM1205 swap. Take your time disassembling the tray assembly, make notes/take pics, you'll be fine. Try not to touch the exposed contacts on the flexfoil /laser assembly when handling though - these are very sensitive to static and it's easy to damage the photodiode assembly before you even begin (true for all laser mechs BTW).

Here's the VAM1205 link:

-Sebastian is good to deal with and the part (which looks like it maybe a high quality Chinese copy) works just fine in Naim CD3.5s. Hope this helps!

Martin,

I bought already the VAM1204, just about 7 pounds!! and it's a high quality chinese made but the laser block is 100% the same. But what is the different between the TDA1305 (VAM 1205) & TDA 1302 (VAM 1204) if I were to change the laser block. Any effect to sound quality?

Thanks

This thread is a bit old, but I guess it is still relevant.

I am looking for a VAM1205 or VAM1204 to replace my VAM1205 mech from a Meridien CD player. No luck so far. However, the shop says that the VAM1250 laser assembly should be able to work as well.:

http://www.agencies.com.sg/cdpickup%...W.O%20MECH.htm

Mechanically, it seems to fit, but the two lazer assembly do look different. The VAM1205 has a TDA1302 IC on the flex, but this 1250 does not appear to have an IC ( maybe under the shield ).

So had anyone tried successfully to use the VAM1250 laser on the VAM1205?

this URL don't gues open
the IC under the shield is the successor (CDRW compatible) of the TDA1302
In this case also this thread (post #8) could be of interest:
