Default M4804A in CD304mk2

Hello all

I have a Philips CD304mk2, and opened it because the servo wasn't working anymore. Fixed the servo allready, a bad connection.
But when i checked the chipset, discovered a 40 pin SAA7210-like chip but with another stamping on it: "M4804A"

I was suprised of this because the other chips was of the standard 16 bit stuff: SAA7220, TDA1541(plain), a RAM, and a 74/74 for dig out. Btw, most of all are produced year '86.

So: is the M4804A a pre-7210 or is it another decoder-chip?

I have problem with cd 304mkII. It has disc start-up problems.
When I press start the CD begins to turn around, but the arm of the laser does not move. It could be a problem of Servo (M4814A)?
Is it possible replace it with cs8412cp?

Many thanks
Andrea

Thanks Ashley, its obvious now: my search here was not thourough enough.

So the M4804 is a pre 7210, with its problems: In post 5 is a comment of starting problems with 4804: My 304 is indeed not a quick starter compared to my newer ('87?) CD640 and 660.

Drews: the 8412 is a (SPdif) receiver and has really nothing to do with the function of Saa7210/M4804.

Does the laser light up? If so the servo doesn't get power, check the red connector (4th from left above on servo pcb) for a bad connection. I had a faulty one also.

If the connection is allright, there is more wrong. Then you need a service manual and search it all out.

If you can read dutch! But schematics are internationally readable i guess. Choose CD304 as mkII not available, but the 304 has same CDM and servo pcb as MKII's, even partnumbers are the same.
