Default LM2670 in digital power supply

Hi,

I ran into the simple witching regulator LM2670 in my CD players PS.

Has anyone experience if that regulator is bad in by any means?

here the link http://www.national.com/pf/LM/LM2670.html

Thanks
Stephan

Default LM2670

Hi Stephan,

The closest one to the '2670 I have worked with is the LM2677. Same as your 2670, but with a 5A rating. You might think of upgrading to the '2677 when replacing. What package is it? TO-220? Sutrface-mount? I have worked with the surface mount versions before without too much difficulty. You just need a steady hand with the soldering iron.

What was the failure mode of your '2670? Open? Short? Did it take any other components with it?

HTH,

Steve

Hi Steve,

what I haven't understood, is the output capacitor, in the spec are very specific selection criteria.
Makes it sense to choose a greater value there?

Stephan
