Help adjusting cd-player lens!!!

Hello,

I just installed a new cdm4/19 lens assembly in my rotel Rcd-855 and am trying to adjust it by turning the variable resistor... Can't seem to find the sweet spot however / best I can get is the player recognising the cd very fast, and willing to play track one but when I try other tracks the player indicates the number of the track, assembly keeps spinning but never finds the track.

I'll give it another shot in the morning but meanwhile any tips would be a gift from heaven - I know the new laser works because I removed it from a Marantz cd52 that I liketh not.
