Arcam Alpha 5 cd player

Hi all,
I have to replace the laser for an Arcam Alpha 5,and just wondering if,apart from Arcam themselves there are any other places to look for a replacement?

If I am informed correctly Arcam does not stock the mechanisms anymore.

What laser does this player use. Is there a part or model number on the laser.

Arcam will probably use a Sony or Philips laser

Are you sure it's the Laser?
lotsa Laser units get replaced needlessly when often it's only a ribbon cable connection issue... just a thought.

It has a Philips CDM9, those mostly break down because of wear ( if that's correct english ? ).

Please replace the electrolytic caps in the cdplayers power supply, they also fail now and then in this type. Do you have the service manual ?

Real cdm9 are now very rare but Grandata do sell a "refurb/pirate" that does work for under GBP50.00
