Hi all...
I have on the way to me a '86 model Sony CDP-705esD (aka Japanese model CDP-555esD). This was the succesor to the Sony CDP-707esD and the only CD Player to receive Sonys famous G-chassis (Gibralter) - ceramic chassis. Here is a rundown on it: Optical pickup: BU-1E Servo System: CXA 1081 (IC101) RF CXA 1082 (IC201) servo signal processor Signal processing: CXD1125 (IC301) the 3rd generation signal processing IC which takes in the function for digital out IC CX23033 to CX 23035. Digital filter: CXD1088 (IC307) 4 times oversampling digital filter DAC: TDA1541A (IC401) Philips DEM 16 bit L/R independence DAC (the TDA1541A is run as 1 chip in L/R dual-mono configuration) Output step: Use OP-Amp (2) JRC 5532DD and TI NE5534P - GIC type 3 next active filter. Headphone output: Use OP-Amp JRC 55532DD Unit has seperate Digital and Analog power transformers mounted to the back of the chassis. I am not a DIYer - but I am interested in what improvements could be done to this unit to improve the sound - which I would like to have done sometime shortly by someone qualified to perform it. I know the DAC can be upgraded to a TDA1541S1 or S2 chip - bout as far as I can expand. Any comments are greatly accepted - as I will use these recommendations when I update it. Thanks in advance... Nate |

I use 557esd as the transport.
I managed to receive a good sound after installation new master clock, Replacements of cap in a digital part on sanyo os-con. And to make separate clean power for CXD1125. |

bamadawg, Nate make sure that the BU-1E laser is 100%, as it is impossible to get this unit any more, I think I lucked out on the last one in existance from Bernhard that posts here, and that was second hand and a good one luckily, prior to that I must have search every part of the globe for one for weeks on end.
If you need one and can't find it, you'll have a very well built heavy Sony paper weight, as no other lasers can be made to fit. The same laser (BU-1E) is used in the cdp-605esd cdp-555esd and the cdp-333esd, and the Onkyo Grand Integra DX-G10 or europe no. DX-6990 Be carefull Cheers George |
