Budhet CDP

Hi Guys, firstly I'm pretty taken with the Playstation 1002 thingie and will have an experiment with one next week.
But, is there another way to get a good CDP at a reasonably low price?(not as low as the PS1!!!)

The market place has models around the £250 mark that sound OK and some very good but do you guy's have any sugestions that may include a sensible amount of DIY?

By the way, I have done some searching and found a few interesting ones but I'm just asking for your current 'off-the-cuff' sugestions, I'l search for more detail from there.
