I'm not trying to do anything diy when it comes to a cd player. I just want a cheap decent cd player for around 100 bucks. You guys have any suggestions? I did do a search first, but It comes up with a lot of unrelated topics and you never know. New deals are popping up all the time. Thanks!

Hi Bruce,
Depends on your criterion. If you get a $100 dollar CD player (new) and it works for a while - great. I will not sound very good compared to the better ones.
A good sounding CD player to me is over $1500 CDN. It's just the way things are. Understand I have many years in the business and service some very expensive combinations. I've been spoiled. So has my wife.
So your question depends greatly on your point of reference.

I think my criterion is the best i can get for only 100 bucks. I know it wont be that great, and I know to get really good sound it cost money. I've been into high end car stereos for about ten years. Obviously it wont sound as good as better ones. Note i didn't say good sounding, I said decent.

PS2 better than greystation?
I have both. I never had tried music through the PS2. PS1s are so cheap, check a local buyn'sell type paper, Craig's list, or pawn shops. I bought mine for $16USD at a local pawn shop. Try to get a model 1001, it has a built in power supply, and separate RCA out jacks.. It sounds way too good to be true, but it is

well i ask about the ps2 because I already own one. My brother is barrowing it 2000 miles away from me, but if it'll make a good cd player I'll have him mail it back. I used it a couple times as a cd player when I had it. It was much better then what I'm using now. I may even have my ps1 somewhere... Thanks.

AutoAudio..
Even if ya don't if ya can find a 1001 Playstation , it is ..the one.
If my experience is typical, you won't go back to bad cheap cd players ever again. Not very convenient to use, but great sounding.. a mechanically simple.

I received this advice from someone in the HiEnd bussiness but I've been unable to try it myself because of lack of 220VAC working units:
Buy a Samsung HD841 multiformat player and change the output opamps for better ones (this is DIYaudio forum, you know )
say OPA2134...
You will end with a probably decent CD player, plus SACD, DVDaudio, DVDvideo, ...etc
Afterwards you may change PCord, rectifiers, PS cap ...etc (the usual stuff...)
Good luck.
