Default Where to add clock?

The schematic for my DVD player shows this layout for the S/PDIF section:

IEC958IN -> TC7WZ4FU (flip-flop) -> DS9638 (buffer) -> transformer -> coax out jack

I'm thinking of adding a Tentlabs X03 - can anyone tell me the best place to tap the output? Is it best after the transformer?

This is in the SPDIF section, right? You are trying to make a better output, right?????

I think I understand the question, but something appears to be missing..............

Sorry - it's me that doesn't understand what's going on.

I've never reclocked before. What I want is to improve the S/PDIF output of this player as a transport.

I thought the X03 gives you both a new clock and a new output. I guess I just don't know where/how to mount it.

Are there any other simple options available (to just improve the transport quality)?

P.S. what would have been a better title for the thread?

Cheers.

Hi buddha,

if you want to try to asynchron reclock the S/PDIF output in any way forget it. This will not work. If you want to improve the S/PDIF output you should first try to increase the bandwidh of the output. This will improve jitter performance a lot. Are there any RC filters in the signal path? If they are remove it. You can also replace the DS9638 and the surrounding components by an Video amp like the AD8132.

The XO3 is a clock module that uses one of the clock outputs to synchronously reclock the SPDIF data as it enters the PCB, and generates a transformer-coupled output. (Not my fave xfmr........sorry Guido! He's a buddy, so I can poke fun at him.)

Here's the problem:

You will need to use the clock on the XO3 to drive your DVD thingie. Not sure that it will work right. A lot of those use some sort of PLL/divider kludge to come up with all the right clock frequencies. I have no idea about the architecture of your player. It may work......it may not......

Title is ok......I just sensed that you weren't asking the question in the manner that I was fixin' to answer it in. Trying not to lower the S/N ratio more than I usually do.

Bocka's suggestions have merits.
