Does anybody know how to make digital out on this player. Analog out is showing signs of sudden death but transport works excellent. I'd build an external dac and it would be nice for some time to be able to use pds501 as transport.
Thanks in advance |

Get a Tentlabs clock XO3 it will clean up your transport and it has a super Spidf (digital coax) output.
Use your power supply that feeds your analog stage for the +15v for the XO3 and disconect that power supply from powering your analog stage so it's only being used to power the XO3, and just leave the - of the power supply disconected. Cheers George |

Thanks but Tentlabs clock XO3 costs about $125. Worth of PDS501 is about $80. I'd like to know is it possible to find this signal on the existing board (or make some small DIY circut to get it out).
Thanks. |

Hi Guys,
Tent labs 's DIG out board is good! If you want to do it a cheap way, you'll have to understand that the SP/DIF will not be as good as the Tent one. I know that Elso made a goodone also, but the parts are no longer available, but maybe there is a substitute for the (i thinkOPA603???) part. All the best, Audiofanatic

Here it is the sheme of digital out from DENON DCD 860 .From the CXD 2500 Q datasheet , pin 59 must be high (5 V) to enable digital out . So , please check this pin .

smario, you may get some ideas from this, it's my Pioneer PD77 a bit more advanced than your PDs 501 but I've seen the PDS905 and it needs a digital coax output as well, all the are missing on the board, they just need to be soldered in and you'll have spidf coax output.

Having said that by the time you get all the parts to put on your board it could cost as much as the TentXO3 and though my spidf is very good on the pioneer PD77 (transformer coupled) it was shamed by the Xo3's spidf output.

Hello Smario,
Please find cxd2500 datasheet. This is decoder in pds502, I guess it is in pds501, too. There is S/PDIF output pin and you can trace it on board right to unmounted optical transmiter on board edge. Good luck, borisov57 |

The OPA603 used in Elso's design is obsolete.
Any suggestions for a replacement chip? |
