DAC in Master, CD in Slave mode - How?

Hi to all,

I'm using Elektor Audio 2000 DAC (CS8414 + DF1704 + 2X PCM 1704).

Is it possible to connect somehow the clock from DAC towards CD Player (NAD C542 - Clock 16.3944MHz).
CS8414 uses in that design clock of 6.144MHz.

Could it be done , thanks?

You build something yourself, it is fairly straightforward or you could go down this route http://www.tentlabs.com/Info/Articles/Tentlink.html

I was wondering is this possible, because CS8414 is having (the only) output clock of 256Fs (11.2896 MHz for Fs=44.1KHz) at MCK pin, that is currently used for DF 1704 as well for 2 X PCM1704.

CD player is using 16.9344 MHz (actually 384Fs)...

If the CD player uses 11.2896, than I think it would be straight forward, but this is a problem (my current opinion).

Any advice ?

Here is an example how it can be done by using DAC PCM1710.
But ...PCM1704 has CKSL pin to choose between 256Fs or 384Fs as output clock...

Sorry for mistake in last post - it is PCM1710, not PCM 1704!

For the CS8414 to work with an external clock, it would need to be in slave mode. In this mode MCK is unused and SCLK and FSYNC must be derived from the external clock. The external clock can then feed the DF1704 and a buffered feed sent to the CD.

Wow! Great post.

Hi

It can be done using the modules as linked. In the DAC an 11.2896 MHz XO takes place, the CD player will use a VCXO at 16.9344 MHz. The PLL will synchronise everything.

cheers

What is used as the reference for the VCXO?

Thanks rfbrw for the hint.

Any schematic or link for this?

Btw, It's clear now, just a question is how to use 384Fs for external clock (and CDP) and to make 64Fs and Fs from it (it's easy with 256Fs by using dddac description).
