Could any body please tell me how to identify the grading of PCM1704 (say U,J or K) on the chip package?

Well, it is printed on the chip ie nothing-U, J-J, K-K
|

My CD player claims that it use PCM1704-K, but only have "PCM1704" marked on the chip.
is it U grade? |

It would seem so. Perhaps people here know more about you particular player if you tell us which one it is.

I bought PCM1704 K from Digi-Key. They do not have K markings, but two white dots.

My CD player is Cxxy CD303/200 and no white dot on the chip.
so, it should be U grade, right? |

The 2 PCM1704's i got here have been marked with a J, though it isn't of the same material as the rest of the markings on it like it was done later on (as it probably would have been)

I wrote to Texas Instrument regarding the dot markings.
Here is their reply to my query: "In response to your query on PCM1704 kindly note that due to marking machine issue, we are marking grade rank by white dot on package. J-grade is one white dot K-grade is two white dot. Hence two white dot pcm1704 parts are from TI and is really K-grade PCM1704." |
