Could any body please tell me how to identify the grading of PCM1704 (say U,J or K) on the chip package?

It would seem so. Perhaps people here know more about you particular player if you tell us which one it is.

I bought PCM1704 K from Digi-Key. They do not have K markings, but two white dots.

Do something really well. See how much time it takes. It might be a product, a work of art, who knows? Then give it away cheaply, just because you feel that it should not cost so much, even if it took a lot of time and expensive materials to make it. - JC

The 2 PCM1704's i got here have been marked with a J, though it isn't of the same material as the rest of the markings on it like it was done later on (as it probably would have been)

I wrote to Texas Instrument regarding the dot markings.

Here is their reply to my query:

"In response to your query on PCM1704 kindly note that due to marking machine issue, we are marking grade rank by white dot on package.

J-grade is one white dot
K-grade is two white dot.

Hence two white dot pcm1704 parts are from TI and is really K-grade PCM1704."
