I have the same question..
The only source of these chips in Italy is Farnell and the CS8414 is priced 14,24 euro, while the CS8416 is priced 6,46 euro.

Are there some problems with the CS8416 or differences with the CS8414?

The CS8416 is 3.3V whereas the CS8414 is 5V. 3.3 volts is available already, so that's not a problem.

<personal opinion which means nothing but i'll say it anyway>
The CS841x PLL can introduce a ton of jitter on the recovered clock. I've measured and even heard better performance by using a cheap SRC4190 or AD1895 ASRC and a locally crystal-clocked DAC.

Side note: Do you have (links to) schematics of such a project?
