Default checking digital output

I recently picked up the build of a dddac and finished it. I checked all voltages and bias as well as dc on the output of the dac and every thing seems fine.

I connected the dac to the digital output of my sugden audition cd player and nothing . I checked the dac again and again but cannot seem to find anyhing wrong. That made me wondering, is the digital output working ? Since I never used a seperate dac before and had some troubles with my cd player before.
I connected my multimeter to the output and measured 0 mV, nothing nada zipp, this cannot be normal can it? Since I'm a complete nOOb can someone help me with this question.

Ralph

It's just a normal S/P-DIF output which goes thru a cs8412 to

as a guess, your SPDIF output should be a train of pulses.

which means it should be somewhat an average of its peak signal.

i think i made a project long time ago using an SPDIF output and i don't recall using any buffers to interface to my PGA. (it could have been an audio extract from the IDE bus, but i don't think my profesor would have assigned such a difficult project)

so i'm assuming it outputs 5v?

so you should at least see ~2.5V?

i could be terribly wrong.
