What is inside Plextor CD rom drive ?

Hi,

sometimes I read about good quality of Plextor drives, what transport they use ?
Any recommended (old) models ?
Better drive or writer ?

I've read in a thread on this forum that plextor drives are actually in fact philips transports.

Yeah they do a lot of rebrands: NEC, panasonic, etc.

The brand is always expensive, but not necessarily better.

I think the older the better, the new are pretty much what everyone else uses. I have a SCSI 6 speed in a computer at work, the 6-Plex with caddy and it is so old, but still reads really well and it is built like a tank. Weighs 2x as much as my Toshiba DVD-ROM. Sounds very quiet and smooth , similar to the old NEC drives.
