Cool... As a matter of fact, I met Ken during last HiFi Show in Lisbon and told him what I have done. He was not totally aware of the cult these players are in but explained that when he first came to London, working for Marantz, he was responsible for selling loads of these players just by fine tunning them with selected Elna caps and little more apart from KI badge.

He told me every household in Japan will have fiber optic supported net by the end of the year and big OEM will stop issuing CD.
With the new high speed streaming, anyone pays a monthly fee to be able to listen to highQ recordings, but no one will be able to tape the music anymore.
It looks that CD (as well as vinyl) will be dead soon.

There are too many countries that don't even have proper broadband yet, so I can't see this happening too quickly.
I doubt it. Vinyl was supposed to be dead back in the 80's and it is making a comeback (even more so in recent years).
And CD will be around for a long, long time.
After all, SACD / DVD Audio was supposed to kill CD off, but it has failed.
Just like Bluray is supposed to kill DVD - you will still see DVDs around for many years to come.
Streaming is the future yes - but another 20 - 50 years maybe, when 3rd world countries have caught up with the technology.
Remember, there are still many people in less wealthy countries using cassettes, even in 2010.
Oh, and any copyright methods will soon be circumvented....

In IT it was said that we would no longer be buying software on CD, but renting it for download off the internet.
Yes, there are some companies doing this - but it is not practical in many countries, as they simply do not have the broadband infrastructure yet.

I still use cassettes and like them more than MP3.... a lot more.... I just can not listen to compressed music a get pleasure out of it.
My main system is based on vinyl, so I guess you are right in many aspects, but I live in PT (a country with a sinking economy)... Japan is another story.

With 13 posts to go I thought I'd help even though the only bit of Marantz kit I have is a CD 36 which I bought for £ 2.20 on E bay. haha - it's true
I am following SimonT and doing an Arcam Alpha instead and having some fun using his instructions - he's such a helpful guy and now, since his first contributiuons 5 years ago, he knows exactly what he's talking about.
I've followed this fascinating thread for about 2 out of the last 5 years because I get a reminder in my ' in box ' every time you all post something.
I'm interested in it becasue years ago ( in the 90's ) I worked every Saturday and some Sunday's in a specialist Hi Fi retailer near where I live.
One of our brands was Marantz and of course the CD 63, the SE and KI Sig came out around that time - we were pretty impressed with the KI - sold many to people who wanted CD 63 SE.
It was an easy ' up sell ' unless you threw in the CD 94 or the big ' 17 ' to show them what they could achieve with just a little more money.......
It always worked.
My favourite was the 94 - I hope to buy one in the future when everyone is
' streaming music in ' and the price falls !!
When this happens I'll be 80years old and I'd refer immediately to this thread to give it some treatment
Looking at your work Audio Tony, Rcruz and all the others who have posted great pics I find it inspiring and educational - I'm a real novice but some of my work is getting better and the sound of my modified machine is well beyond my early expectations..
Your machines probably outperform serious money high end kit, you all know exactly what you are doing but don't mind making mistakes and telling all how and why or helping someone in the ' brown stuff '
I think it's truly astounding that this thread has gone so far - you are all like relatives now and you should have a family party to celebrate 15,000 excellent contributions - well, almost.
