The original disc surface is perfect as far as i can see. Yes it does play other original discs but i find it is very fussy with discs ie producing this whirling static noise on a lot of discs.

I'd dismantle the mech and give the laser a good clean inside and out. It may help. Its a bit of a fiddle but it could be as simple as needing a clean.

Clean the metal guide bar and run a cotton swab doused in IPA over the lens.

Although a pint of medical grade pale ale might work as well. Can't say for sure as I've never tried!!! cheers!!!! hic!

Just when I thought this thread couldn't get any better, it covers beer now too?!

Broke my player yesterday somehow. No display and disc spins uncontrollably. Spent hours going over the PCB looking for faults but had to sleep on it. I'm about to try again. Wish me luck.
