Default Cyber DVD320 DVD player

I bought this DVD player two weeks ago at Target for $36 and would like to share my opinion.

http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html...601-1739894-28 ...

Right out of the box, it sounds a lot better in compare to the Audio Alchem DAC 1.1 that I have. The sound is very pleaseant with a touch of warmness to it - very clean and detail also. After listened to it for about 5 days, I liked the way it sounds and decided to do some upgrade to it.

Inside there is one small circuit board mounted on the side next to the DVD transport. It's very simple and quite easy to upgrade. I upgraded the power supply caps with larger and better quality caps, and replaced a few miscellanious caps in there with high quality caps like black gate, nichicon and paper in oil cap (If I remember it right, there are only about 10~12 caps total in there and I only changed 4 caps in the path that I thought critical - I may replaced all of the old caps with better ones and upgrade the power cord later).

Anyhow, turned it back on and the sound has improved tremendeously. Much more transparent, clarity and deeper bass. Overall, I am quite impress with it consider the $36 price tag. I can post pictures of the mod here for those who are interested.

Note: There are lot of complains regarding the reliability of this unit so please dont blame me if you get one that does not work for some reason. I maybe just lucky to get a good working one. The manufacture's date on this unit is Jan, 2005.

It's been 2 weeks now and I still think it's a very nice sounding player.
I thought this little DVD player may mate well with the little Sonic Impact amp as ulti-inexpensive portable system. Now I need to look for a nice pair of super compact speakers that is also ulti-inexpensive so I can have a complete ulti-inexpensive portable system for the bedroom.

That's is all I have for the 2 cents worth.

justpoor.
