Default Home Theater Preamp

I would like to build my own home theater preamp with dolby digital, DTS, and pro logic decodeing. Is this possible? Any tips would be welcome.

It is almost impossible to build your own DD and DTS decoder. Same for Pro Logic... you can only build analog surround matrix.

I'm in the same boat too, I heard that it was impossible and was looking for a cheap pre amp, almost an oxymoron.

this was at CES 2005, it seems pretty good, especially for the price. I'm thinking about getting on in the summer.

Hi,
I have thought of building a preamp with DTS capability. But found it is almoust impossible to get decoder chips, at least for private person, unless you are willing to order them thousens.

But then my vision clarifyed a bit, why not bying a cheap, used, amplifier with DTS and DD capability. There the decoder chip would be easily removed and new surroundings rebuilted.

Comments about idea?

Contact various manufacturers, say you're repairing one of their receivers, and tell them you need a (insert decoder chip they use here)

And let us know if it works

Maybe you could sucker CS into sampling you one of these:

I suppose the main problem is coming up with the software for it. Not to mention getting it soldered to a board in a meaningful setup.

Cirrus is not nice about samples... I had requested a single sample of something from them for edu purposes (I am in college) and they said OMGNO (phrasing may have been a little different)
