Hi there,
I have build the highly regarded DDDac and I was very impressed by its sound. I was using my Pioneer 801 as a transport to feed the dac. Last month the dac started to distort bad, so I took it out. Then I thought I will try how good the Pioneer can perform with some mods. I exchanged all the caps with Panasonic FC bypassed with 100nf Wima MKP10. Then I exchanged the JRC OpAmps with OPA2134 configured a la CarlosFM (33-100uf from each rail to ground bypassed with 100nf ceramic). What I heard when I fired the Pioneer up was amazing. It has all the power of the DDDac, but the heights are more detailed and extended. Also when the presentation has only few instruments the two contenders are very similar sounding exept for the heights, but as soon as the music has lots of singers and or Instruments involved the Pioneer has a clear edge. I can just hear more details in the presentation and the music does not get congested at all. This all was a surprise to me since the player has only those mentioned mods. There is still allot of room to get this player sound even better: clock, diodes, PSU, damping ect. Now that I have made this promising adventure I want to go ahead and bypass the analogue stage altogether using the CDenhancerII of Remco _____ (I forgot how to spell his last name, sorry for that Remco). Remco has raved about the analogue-like sound that his transformer coupled valve output produces and I have all the reasons to believe him since he is a very experienced audio DIYer who also has a top notch analogue set-up. Unfortunately Remco has closed his web-page and I have no schematic of the CDenhancerII Actually I had already purchased the Pioneer PD-S801and also the recommended not exactly cheap 9:1 Sowther transformers to exactly build Remco's set up. But then I came across the DDDac and I thought I give it a try first because it seemed to be more simple to build for a person who has no clue about electronics. Now my questions to you guys are: Did anyone here download the schematic of the CDenhancerII ? Could I possibly use my Tube preamp to feed the transformers ? Does anyone know how I can find the analogue outs of the bit-stream dacs ? (I have no scope) Can someone tell me how I can use the transformers without Remcos schematic ? Any help is greatly appreciated. Klaus |
