Hi,
just got a used 6890 and want to measure the TDA1547... But it does not read the disk. It spins and makes intermittand noise as it hardly tries. When I turn back laser power on the pot on the laser pick up, it does not search any more. So I think the laser is not dead. Also lens pumps up and down without disk and laser is visible Higher laser output does not help. Also reacts to pot adjustments, but does not read the disk. Sony chip defective ? CXA1571S, CXA1372S. Any other idea ? |

Hopefully you marked the original positions of the potis?? It's an old integra, isn't it?? I once planned to buy a (yet older) used one from the xx-50-series, but dumped it when I heard they often get pickup problems and those pickups are out of stock. Don't ask me where i read it (don't recall), but i think the lens is hold by a foam surrounding comparable to a speaker suspension. This foam starts to become out-of-shape. Try this: readjust to original poti values (perhaps increase laser power) insert a disc, switch the player off and turn it around upside down for an hour. Turn it on again then. If it reads the disk upside down, the suspension is worn and the player cannot focus any more.
Or you can try to get the service manual to find a pin where you can measure the focus-ok-signal... I've got an Nakamichi where i have problems with one of the sony chips, but i was told that happens almost never. Matthias |

The lens moves up and down when I switch on the player with no disk.
But I will try upside down. Any idea if other cheaper players have same laser / board ? |

Hi Bernhard,
Check if your CD player has one, or (most likely) two trim-pots in the tracking and servo control section of the PCB. If this is the case, you'll need service manual to adjust focus and servo properly. You might need a special CD as well. You will save yourself a lot of time (and money - the "setup" CD is around A$70 - A$90) if you take the player to service. You can check if the laser diode is outputting properly if you find the "RF" test - point on PCB. Insert a disk and press PLAY. While the disk is spinning, measure the RF level of the eye-pattern. It should be around 1.6V to 1.8V PP. If it is lover, you have a bad (used) laser diode and you'll probably have to replace the pickup. And one more thing: the laser diode output can be adjusted with the little trim-pot located on the pickup itself. Regards, Extreme_Boky |

I can bring it to 0,5 and 1,8 but it does not help and I think it is not healthy for the laser. On another Onkyo, a DX6660 it also swings 0,2 to 0,9 and works properly. Defective CXA chip ? Does RF directly come from the laser unprocessed by CXA chips ? Never seen an eye pattern before It is there but varies a little as the intermittand search sound varies like sss sss sss sss... Can we declare the laser as "working " ? Picture: Upper is working DX6660 , lower is bad 6890 seems a little hazy, also some pictures it looked very hazy but as said it moves a little, focus problem ??? |

While searching, the spindle motor accelerates a little about 2 times a second and the eye pattern does the opposite of expansion ( don`t find the word
) on the x-axis. |

Yes, as one can see in many euras-based catalogues of online spare part vendors, the spu3013 is the pickup of the 6890 and no longer available

Hugo,
yes it is. It means whole 68XX series got the same laser. Do you know where to get one ? Besides I do not know if it is bad in my player. I found a CXA1372 in a cheap Denon. Maybe this one is dead. |

I know from experience that the spindle motor often fails too. There is one little trick when for example the unit fails to play when cold. Solder a 1nF ceramic cap directly on the motor wires. /Hugo
