After having read the letter Jelmax sent I think it is true. IIRC this document was published here too. Give Jelmax a call to check it if you like, you know the language and the telephone bill will be smaller .

The letter they sent to their dealers was published on this forum as well ( by BrianGT ???, could not find it ), the news came from themselves AFAIK. Also some audio-related websites published some while ago that BG production would cease.

Could be a very good marketing stunt the way things look now.......

I would use the Rubycon ZA/ZL caps for a direct, and superoior replacement. They sound faster, cleaner, and provide better clarity/vividness. These are far better than the N series BG. I have tested mulitple upon multiple of times and the BG sounds slow and constricted.

Replacing stock electrolytic in your CD player, transport, dac, preamp, or amp will provide sonic improvement simply unattainable without. A quote from Peter Qvortrup from Audionote-UK "The Black Gate capacitor is the single biggest improvement to digital in the last 15 years" -We couldn't agree more! It is time to finally hear what you've been missing.

Question:

How can the BG's go from being the best sounding cap ever to the bottom of the heap....?!

Could you please elaborate on this a bit, Doug...? I, and others, would certainly appreciate it...

I bought a set of 8 Black Gate caps from you, based on your previous rave (printed above)... I am now having my amps rebuilt, the only part of the mod not being touched was to be the 8 Black Gate coupling caps... are you now saying you believe they have a detrimental effect on the sound and you would not use them in anything, with generic caps being superior....? I still have time to change the order and have the stock caps put back in... so, I'd appreciate some clarification as to what you're saying here, given the benefit of your having spent much more time with them, as well as hearing them in more than one setup, as well... as this decision as far as keeping the Black Gates in my mono's or not is going to affect my listening pleasure for quite some time to come, I'd really appreciate if you could clarify the matter some.... and the choice is either Black Gates or going back to the generic electrolytic caps that came in the original units, as I'm trying to regain the original sound as much as possible but was hoping for some additiona detail and transparency from the BG's....

Thanks...

Fumihiko-san,

I already have problem to order certain BG NX caps here in the U.S. so something must be wrong here. Either the distributors halt the supply on purpose or Rubycon has stopped manufacturing some BG breeds, not the whole line?

Well, Doug, have you ever tried out the new Pana FM caps? Regular OS-Cons are never meant to be used in audio circuits so it's not a fair comparison here. For digital circuits, OS-Con SEP and those new solid polymer caps can easily, soundly, beat any BG and your Rubycons.

I've recently purchased a variety of values from Michael Percy without a problem. He seems to have everything in stock. There are a number of other dealers in the US and Canada as well that seem to have stock. Where are you buying and what are you having trouble finding?

Now you have my curiousity up. Have you compared Pana FM's to Nichicon HE's or Muse series by any chance? Jon Marsh made a post sometime ago at AA in a cap discussion that Pana FC's strugged to be in spec with a 20% tolerance as stated by Panasonic. Nichicons, however, were always at or above their rated spec by a substantial margin. He is an EE and works in the semi conductor field so he's using ultra expensive test equipment to measure them. He's also a tweaker at heart so he also uses his ears. :-)

What is your take on the FC Vs. FM Vs. Nichicon?

Thanks for the feedback!

Jim
