a few years ago i owned a 289......
it was heavely modded - but ultimately i couldn't live with it so i sold it. if you give your player : a new clock + supply. black gate bgn(x) all over. new schottky rectifiers all over. extra trafo for the analog output. extra trafo for the digital department. change the dc-coupling caps for something much better - i used jensen copperfoil 6,8uF with very good results. this will cost you alot - but your player will be completely transformed......shocking. i now have a krell kps20i....with the same mods mentioned above. (ecxept it's dccoupled, so no caps in series.) let me hear how it goes. troels |

Modded a 288 once. Looks nice inside but sounded dull because of the original Teac board with its shortcomings. A new clock was the biggest improvement.
I remember that one should be careful with the carbon flatcables going to the display. Very fragile. edit: posted wrong DAC chip TDA1547, it was obviously a long time ago that I saw one

Actually it is 4 pcs pcm63 - k grade.
The player is really nice, but new master clock is required to make it shine. |

Ahem, it had PCM63 indeed. Mixed it up because of remembering the Teac PCB. Although it was OK after the clock mod it did not have some of the qualities some much less expensive cdplayers have ( apart from $ that is ). It particularly wondered me that the standard Teac PCB was used in contrast with a nicely designed discrete output stage.
