Anyone have any links for modifying a stereo? I am looking to take a stock car cd player...and modify it to take S/PDIF output. I currently have a stereo with dig out....but I am looking at doing it more stealthy....so if someone looks in the car....they would only see a stock stereo...

You need to find the DAC IC on the circuit board, look up it's datasheet, and determine what pins to tap for the digital signals. You then have to build a circuit using CS8405/CS8406 or DIT4096 to take the serial audio data and encode it to S/PDIF. It's relatively easy, but it could be pretty challenging if you've never worked with digital circuits before. You also might break your CDP.
Here is one such example; you might need to modify it to use the proper format and MCK timing for your stereo. http://www.hut.fi/~jwagner/electr/minidisc-spdif/ Beware, I believe some cheap CD players have integrated controllers/DACs. There may not be serial audio data exposed that you can tap. |
