Does anyone have the schematic/service manual for the 578a, or tried to mod it?
I'm interested to see if I can pull sacd out. Supposedly, it converts SACD to 88/24bit prior to sending it to a cheapo BB DAC. I'd like to try to pull the PCM converted SACD thru the digital out, so I can process the digital thru a better DAC, like the benchmark 1. Anyone tried to do this or with another player? THX |

I currently work on that mod.
First prototype is ready, more details and pics after Christmas. Be happy. This will be the first player who outputs anything from DVA-Audio (up to 192kHz) to SACD as S/PDIF. Charly |

Look forward to your mod. I know that dvdupgrades offers a mod, but it is expensive, mainly because they do a sacd to pcm conversion, which was design intensive. The 578 already does the sacd to pcm conversion, so it would seem that the bulk of the work was done, and all that was needed was to pull the pcm prior to the dac and transmit it using a CS or TI chip to spdif. Hopefully it will be a DIY and relatively inexpensive. Good luck!

Very nice i'm closely watching this thread since i own a player and recently thought of tweaking it but just damped the chasis and put a plate of marlbe on top and under the unit. No resonance
.I don't have extensive experience in tweaking DVD/CDs so i'd like to see what you can do with that thing. Keep up the good work,Charly!!! |
