Hi
I want to connect my CD player to an Audio Alchemy DAC which has an I2S input. I have found the place to take out BCLK, WCLK and DATA in the CD player. The problem is that the AA DAC I2S interface has a 5 pin input. Two additional pins are Deemphasis and Master Clock. I guess that Deemphasis pin can be left out. Is it correct? Does the Master Clock input pin of the DAC need to be connected to the CDP? Also, do I need any buffer circuit for the connection?

Hi Quan tran, Deeemphasis CD's are pretty rare nowedays so you can leave that out. But you need the masterclock for your Audio Alchemy DAC unless you want to mod it to Non-Oversampling. Only feasable if it does not contain a Delta-Sigma DAC that have the digital filter on chip. I am not sure about the buffering scheme used by AA. The mini DIN jack is not matching the impedance of the cable for sure. I hope this helps.

Hi Elso Kwak,
Thanks for your reply. My AA DAC has a Philips bit stream DAC chip running at 256x. My CDP is a Marantz CD53 MKII (quite similar to the popular CD63). Where can I get the master clock from the CDP? I read some where that Audio Alchemy I2S has a master clock signal which is generated by the receiver going back to the transmitter. I am not sure if it is relevant here?

256x 44.1kHz= 11.2896 MHz. You are not in luck. Your player runs at 16.9344MHz. AA's scheme was only from player to DAC not vice versa. Use SPDIF and replace the clock in your player by a low jitter one. You can download it here: http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/showt...928#post199928
