Has anyone ever swapped a DAC on their soundcard?
Im guessing it can be done, so long as the new DAC has the same pin config and interface.. what are some common DAC's? I have an old audigy 1 and am planning on upgrading to an EMU card or MAudio soon but thought id have some fun with this one and see if it is possible to wring something noticably better from this card first.. |

Not worth it IMO. You'd get far better results by improving the power supply filtering (change caps to better ones /& add chokes to filter the noisy power supply which comes through the PCI slot).
Audigy 1 resamples 44.1kHz to 48kHz internally and the resampling routines are not that good. Ditch it. If you want good sound from the PC get an EMU 1212m card. M-Audio cards are currently not the best choice even price wise in this domain, and the additional $100 for the EMU card is more than justified as far as the word of mouth goes all over the net.

If you really want a nice sound card, go with something from Aardvark. Their converters are excellent, and the clocks are based on the same technology as their Aardsync clocks.
Cheers, Zach
