Sony had a cd-player there you put the cd on a rotating disk who then went into the player. The laser read from above the cd.
Anyone who now the name of that model? Progg70 |

AFAIK every model of Sony pickup assembly reads disk from the bottom.

Most probably you mean Pioneer's Stable Platter technique like used in the PD-S507, PD-S904 etc. The more expensive ones like the 901/904 are better by design. However they are less good than Teac VRDS machines, also when used as a transport. The DAC's used in them are nothing special.
Sony has made some cdplayers that used a puck like the CDP-X3000ES and CDP-X5000ES. These were Fixed Pickup machines that had the lasers at the conventional spot ( but fixed with the spindle moving ). Some less expensive versions did not use the puck but had more or less the same mechanics, like the CDP-XB920/930. I had a CDP-X3000ES which is a wonderful machine but unfortunately it is a bit family-unfriendly ( the puck and the plexiglass tray ). The Sonys are better than Stable Platter machines but harder to find and more expensive. Other than the ones mentioned I do not know of Sony types with a system like you mean.
