If we don't count the 1997 re-run, when did Philips actually stop producing TDA1541A?
I saw some as follows: TDA1541A 11205 HSH9314 2 (see photo attached) Is this real? the date code of 93 seems fairly late. Also, someone mentioned that as the manufacture method got more mature, the late production of the TDA1541A were somewhat better than the early ones, if so the 1993 should be pretty good, right?

I think it was around 1993/94 that production stopped, production of 1 bit DAC chips had already started. Strange thing is that I've seen SAA7220P/B younger than that !?!?
AFAIK only the non-A versions had true quality problems in the first years they were produced ( this was around 1985/86 ).

1996 ? That are pretty recent ones ( or more recently stamped ones
). I did see SAA7220 made in 1995 before which made me wonder as they are supposed to be a combo. What does the HBH mean ??

HI,
let me share some information from the philips chips supply. The early philips TDA1541a was from Holland or Belgium philips factory because first production TDA1541a is a expensive chips. The outlook had philips logo on the left top, white line on the left side. In my stock from 1988~1991. production period 10777~11149. Then later some chips was made by USA's factory from 1991~1993/1994. Then will stop production because of the DAC-7 or 1-bit DAC. At last was the re-open production line on Taiwan by Marantz so some chips was shown in date of production in 1997~or later. The early chip best was single crown. R1,N1.The best was Q grade which was directly sell to japan. Accuphase was order this chips.Pls see the photos. Nowsdays the most expensive use double DAC & TDA1541a (S2 grade). was zanden lab. Pls check. http://www.soundstage.com/revequip/z...i_followup.htm http://www.avantgarde-usa.com/zanden.html this DAC use tube output stage & cost USD10000. But Taiwan made had S2 Double crown grade. There was not white line on the left & philips logo only. thanks thomas |
