Got a Philips CD 692; after healing the usual skipping problem I am trying to decide whether it could be a good base for modding.
Seems a nice low-end machine and under the the hood there are VAM1201 (at least the sticker on the side says "1201" among other), TDA1301 and SAA7341GP. Despite of a thorough search, all I could find out about the SAA7341 is the description "Decoder/DAC". No datasheet, no notes, nothing. Besides other mods, I would like to install a non-OS DAC, preferably on the I2S bus. The problem is, I don't even know if it is available on this chip. I do intend to order a service manual for the player if I decide to go on, but before I do that, I would at least like to know some basic facts about what can and what can't be done. Can anybody help me? - Anything is welcome - datasheets, notes, observations... Thanks, Andrej |
