CS4398 anyone
I might be able to get my hands on a few of these DAC's. Does anyone know of any designs which use them (or could use them)? Are they any good?
Personal experience, guesswork and speculation welcome;) /U. |
Bump! Anyone?

RE: speculations
If you will compare the real measurements in data-sheets of CS43122, CS4396 and CS4398 (not on the first page, but the table) you will find some interesting matches ... ;)

I have actually heard that it is more or less a 43122 with DSD-support and it has been recommended to me as a replacement for the 43122 (by a Crystal/Cirrus representative no less), but still a second opinion (or more than one) is always nice.... :smash:

They are not pin-compatible as it was with CS4396 and CS43122. Then, CS4398 has on-chip 50kHz filter to support SACD, but IMO it is better to use SM5819A (DSD->PCM) converter for such purpose and leave CS43122 as-is.
Samples of designs with CS4398 - E-mu 1212M and 1820M soundcards, Fosgate T1+ AV processor (awarded at CES2004) ... |
