Oh. This means this player may never be able to play all discs? Can I try to do anything to make the performance better?
The whole thing is hard to believe for me anyway, on the logical side. If the only difference is in the writer, than it would be impossible to see any difference in the performance of different players. I mean if my other Onkyo (6870) of nearly the same age plays all of my cds, then the're written good enough, and my other Onkyo should play them all also. (Btw I have a pretty good Plextor writer). I can only see the story logical if it's the chipset of my 6750 that's too old, but that's also strange. Is it possible at all? I mean, can I have an old-enough player not to be able to play cd-r discs in theory?

Anyway, even if I cannot repair the player it makes a nice stock of parts for my DX-6870, which I want to keep anyway (I like the look and the sound). The transport is the same, the laser is the same, and at EUR 49.- the 6570 came at less price than what a replacement laser would cost.

Maybe there is a difference between encoding of CD-R and CD frames then? I expect the plextor writer would do a good job. Weird.

I must try playing a CD-R on my CD303 (to get back to the original thread!), I know the transport is good, but I wonder if the decoder will have problems? It might even play CD-RW, that would be cool from an 80s vintage player.
