First, the sound will depend on the battery type, second, it seems like AC PS adds more of that hash and grit that pure battery power is lacking.

It would be interesting to run your DAC from AC power line and see how it sounds. I definitely had much less highs extention when using Panasonic 12V battery. I din't know about it untill I compared with the other supply.
