In other words, if I keep my player switched on all day long (but not playing), will this reduce its lifetime?

Bricolo, I have a Philips CD650 (CDM2) and Marantz CD52SE (CDM4), and the laser is not powered in stop mode.
I don't know any player that has the laser always on... |
