MP3 player subsystems

I was looking for an MP3 player to test an idea out and I noticed that there seem to be, at the very least, tens of no name builds available.

I'm guessing that a number of these MP3 players are using a subsystem from the same manufacturer, and are buying it as Intellectual Property.

Does anyone know of anywhere online that sells the bare subsystem of an MP3 player?

I'm thinking of the stick kind. They look a lot like a stick of RAM with a USB port and controller strapped to them.

Hi, you could try having a look at the page below, where you can get a kit that will run from a HDD or comact flash card a well as having provisions for an LCD interface. I guess you could buld someting a bit biger and flashier with this as it can store a lot more music (I would be quite tempted to try something if I had the money), so it may be overkill for what you need, but I though you may be intrested in anycase.
