Default Conversion of DVD Player to AVR

here in Pakistan we can purchase elcheapo sort of DVD+CD+MP3 players (courtesy CHINA)for around 70 dollars, I have one with me whose drive mechanism is busted, electronic circuitary is fine and in working condition, is there a way that it could be converted into an AVR, i.e it takes SPDIF or Optical input and gives a 5.1 output?
