I got an scd-xb770 sacd/cd player, that does not read almost any cds. I have tried to calibrate it (according to the service manual), but without success. Sometimes, if it succeeds to find a disc, it might play the whole disc without any problem. Some discs never work, and some (mostly cd-rs) work about half the times. Cant seem to find the proble, with this one. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?
Thank you!

Somebody suggested that some CD players had a wrongly adjusted inner stop for the laser which caused the failure to read the innermost track information and thereby the whole read would fail. This sounds like a plausible explanation since you are able to read a whole disc once it is found.
Do not know how to adjust it thogh, there was a thread here previously but i cannot remember what to search for to find it.

That might be the problem. Also, as some cds are easier for it to find, especially cd-r´s that got cd-text. Has it been on this forum? I have searched it without luck.

Opened it up, and there is a switch wich signals the most inner position. Temporary moved it, so the laser will come closer to the middle of the disc, but no difference.

Is there any progress in debugging your CD player?
Tried cleaning the lens? The only other thing I can think of is to remove and refasten all cables to see if anything is oxidized or badly connected.

Hi, yes I tried cleaning the lens. I believe that my player will have to RIP. I have checked cables, and solderings, and resoldered suspicous things. I also asked the same questions on techniforum, and spoke to a guy from .cz who had worked 9 years at sony service. He recommended to try to freeze the laser, to see if it is the problem, and when i freezed it, it worked better for a while. Dont know where to go on now, dont think I will change the pickup, as this player isn´t that good in the first place, and the pickup is rather expensive (300e at sony service in finland).
Thank you for your suggestions.
