Default Help! DAC got no Bass

I've just completed the DAC based on the schematic from the RJM site - music has got detail and vocals sound fine but bass is very much lacking. Component values used are as specified. Tried increasing the power supply cap to 1000uf, dropped the 1543 supply voltage to 8V and still no difference. Any idea what's happening ? Appreciate the help. Thanks. Schematic link below.

Yo! Fancy seeing you here...

What are you connecting the dac to? Try posting on echoloft, and see if any of the local kaypohs can help.

A possible answer is that the passive I/V output is having problems driving the next stage (the preamp, or worse the passive attenuator). I had that issue, and it was solved by having a buffer on my gainclone, and using parallel dacs.

I get tremendous bass drive out of my DDDAC 1543...I am using the 8 parrallel chip configuration which produces plenty of drive...also...I liked the effects of reclocking with Guido Tent's reclocker.

I have the same experience, and solved it with going to active IV using opa2604. Huge improvement, especially in the bass department.

Passive I/V can also have good bass, but the choice of components is more critical. The battery improves bass substantially as well.

I can't complain that my passive I/V stage is lacking in that dept. Actually, I was commented that the bass was rather amazing. I'd say that PS is quite important for good bass performance.

Hello maartentje, Now this get's interesting! What kind of coil or AC filter did you manage to make?
Are you familiar with the Jon Risch filter?

You have thus learnt a valuable lesson - a mains filter usually does more harm than good.
