i`ve just aquired a couple pieces of PCM1704.

question: do i need a DF1704 to act as a filter for a PCM1704 with a CS8414 reciever?

is this need for a DF1704 simillar with all PCM DACs?

Yes

No

Only PCM1704, PCM1702, PCM63. You may also use other upsampling filters from for example NPC but these are much harder to get, at least here in US.

oh okay, would this mean that the PCM1791/2 do not reqire them...

are there any good schmatics for the pcm1791/2 or are they unexplored?

The PCM1792 can use the DF1704/6 or any other digital filter but does not need one.

Just wanted to reiterate the correct statement above: the digital filter is not required. If you decided to use a digital filter, it could be DF1704/6 or PMD100/200 or any other filter you can find.
