Hi,
have a look at tnt-audio, search for TNT1541. There is a multiple electrical SPDIF input with selection: just enable only one of the receivers outputs and get rid of the selector.
By the way, if you can find a RS488 30MHz receiver chip, it should be somewhat faster than RS422.
