Hi all,
I've been following this thread for some time, and want to build Mick's PSU, though I would like to make a small PCB for looks. Wonder if anyone care to comment on my proposed layout, it's just the 1st reg. part (ie the 7.6v line). It's done with some parts I have in hand, hence the component size thank you in advance

This looks great! Will you also be creating a 3.6V PCB? Perhaps you can offer a group buy for these boards. There are a lot of Playstation owners including myself here.

Well, I'm only an amateur, thats why I would like some opinions on this, and yes I've created all of the boards, that is two boards for the 7.6 and 8.3v line and one board for the second regulation part (small one)
As for a group buy, I think it is possible, but would like to know Mick's opinion first, it's his design after all

Be careful carcass, I remember reading a comment way back that someone joined all the ground wires while taking the original power supply outboard to minimize the number of connecting wires. I think the unit fried.

yes, but in this case "analog" and "digital" power supplies are separated, so I think I'm safe for that.
What I would like to know is if the placement seems ok (ie for inductance, etc...) thank you |

Hello Everyone, this is my first post at this great site. I found it while researching using a PS 1 as a CD player. I see it has been a very popular discussion. It will take me some time to read throuh all the posts so I thought I would start with a general question while i read.
Is the scph-1001 the only model available in the USA that is worth of using? I have checked e-bay and find all different model #s. Should I only look for a 1001? Thanks for any help. |

Hi,
I am converting a batch of PlayStations as in the dogbreath article. I am finding that for reasonable tracking I am having to set the three voltages to values quite different from those given in dogbreath. I expect this is due to the age of the various machines. Does any one have information on the ranges of voltages which are acceptablefor a PlayStation 1 laser and any recommendations about these? Thanks for the help George |

Hi George,
I think Micks values were great for his specific drive. I don't think it's a common value. You have to try different voltages, or better, use the drive from the PS one like I did. No problems anymore! Hoping to post some pictures of my "recased" PS1 next week!
