Hi kropo,

it's mainly a 680µF/400V cap!
Someone in this thread wrote that changing the power cap into something bigger will loose the magic of the PS sound!

Default Varnishing

I want to varnish my PS1. Are there any hints to do this with great results?
How to remove the PS-logo off the cover without damage?

To Tolu,

The PS-logo is very easy to remove.
Just using a tiny blade around edge of the logo and lift it up.

Hi,
I am not sure if this is the right forum, but I have a couple of modded SCPH-1002 PlayStations for sale. The mods do not include power supply ( I made this mod on an early model and heard no difference), but they do include the direct drive from the DAC to the phono connectors via the filter and the tuning of laser, as documented on the dogbreath site.
If anyone is interested there is a full description at
Upgraded Sony Audiophile SCPH-1002 CD Player on eBay (end time 18-Oct-09 17:41:35 BST)

Smile Returning to a PS!

Hi, I have not been to this tread for a while but have found out a couple of interesting facts on improving PS1 standard sound.
My current Pioneer DVA/CD/SACD has bit tyhe dust and I came across a 1001 PS1 in the market for 15 pounds. I have twiddled with PS1's before but do not have the electonic skills for the an upgraded power supply. However this PS1 is a 110 volt with a step down transformer. (sorry you guys in the US), also with it came the AV ouput leads which allows me to by-pass the RCA sockets. Boy what a difference these two make as it opens up the sound stage and really improved base definition.
I plan now to do several mechanical mods and move the P/S off board. I will trunkat the AV lead on solder new silver interconect wires to the trrancated AV plug and see what this does. It is interesting that I consider the sound staging, timbre and personnel involment in the PS1 to be superior to my DVA section on my old player and this had been assessed by several revieers in the past as ref quality!! go figure. the PS1 mestique continues.

Hmm hard to tell because I have struggled alot just to make it want to play - I have almost no electronic skills but I will not give up so I have not listened very much.

If I schould describe the sound with one word I would say it is Analog BUT

1) The bass is still a bit muddy
2) It is like there is a kind of curtain in front of my speakers.

Bypassing some of the caps in the signalpath may get rid of the "bad sound" - I have tried step 4 on Mick Feuerbacher Audio Projects but it made the sound go crasy - I wonder if it is problem with DC. I have done exactly as told on the site.

Using a decent cable compared to a standardcable (RCA) will hopefully increase the sound quality.
