CS8414 vs. CS8412; (TC)74HCU04 replacement?

Hello,

may I replace the CS8412 receiver with the CS8414 (e.g. doededac www.dddac.de)? (It is much cheaper here).

Also, I am looking for (TC)74HCU04 but did not find where to buy it. TI refuses to send me a sample (I know the reason ...) Can I use 74HC04 instead of it? I want to use it in my digital output stage. schematic attached.

Thanks in advance

Christian.

Hello!

The CS8414 is pin for pin compatable with the CS8412,
but may have a different analog filter configuration. People
debate the sonics of the 2 chips.

The 74HCU04 ligic chip can be had from Mouser Electronics (USA)
(mouser.com). Some say that the newer 74VHCU04 chip is
better sonically, and still others say that paralleling the logic
gates will increase jitter in the data stream. I am going to
build an SPDIF out circuit using a 74VHCU04 gate, followed
by an RS422 line driver chip and resistors to make the 74 ohm
output impedance.
