Tip for cheap CD drawers

Greetings Digiphiles,

I usually hang out on the tubes/valves forum but I came across something that might help.

My cheap Cambridge CD30 player wouldn't open the drawer. I removed the cover then removed the disc clamping mechanism (2 screws). I put a disc on the spindle, replaced the clamp, powered up and the disc spun and played. The drawer opened and spit out the disc.

It appears that marginally powered drawer motors sometimes have trouble overcoming the magnetic clamping mechanism.

The solution is to always leave a disc in the drawer (pick a disc you hate:)) and simply trade it with the one you want to listen to when you're in the mood for music.

Regards, Steve
