Hi,
I plan to mod my panasonic XR45 digital receiver. My main goal is to get rid of jitter.
I want to add a USB port to the panasonic by just putting a M-Audio Sonica USB (http://www.short-media.com/article.php?115) inside and wiring the SPDIF line out of the Sonica to the AKM 4114 spdif receiver in the panny. I would bypass optical/coax.
Do you believe this would reduce jitter? (as there would be no optical/coax cables involved)
Regards,
Andres

Any success witht this project yet? I've got a couple of XR10s, and I'm really intrigued by all of the PC-audio activity lately. TIA - Pat

Hi,
At the end the Sonica is not very reliable under heavy CPU load. The USB interface in the PC gets hit and the audio gets choppy, so I left with the impression that USB 1.1 is not enough for sound.
I have one space SA-XR25 (in addition to the XR45) and I already got all the parts to make: http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=22741&perpage=15&pagenumber=2
Now I just need time!

jitter takes places on the spdif portion of the path,
you'd better try to output the classical LRCK,SDATA,CLOCK signals before the spdif line driver of the sonica.
Connecting the out clock of the sonica to the pany's will eliminate jitter by construction.

I'm still thinking about this. I'm using a Squeezebox via coax to the XR10 now, but I'd like to add a USB-in to the receiver and go directly from the computer to the receiver.
So, is it as simple as just adding a USB-I2S board, such as the dddac, and wiring the I2S outputs to the Equibit board, as outlined in this post:

or is more required, such as additional logic or other conversion steps?
I'm a newbie with regard to this stuff, but I'd appreciate any advice that anyone could offer.
Thanks - Pat
